I have created this blog to share my ideas of how to implement technology within your classroom. I am still tweaking the design and everything. This will take time. Please post and suggestions or comments. Thanks so much for your patience.

Mr. Dean

One of the biggest struggles for me in my 6th Grade Classrooms is finding a way to effectively teach Internet Safety and Awareness to my students.  I want a learning experience that is both memorable and effective.  The Internet has many different sources for teaching Internet Safey & Awareness in your classroom.  Today I am going to share 2 of my favorites for the Middle Level Classroom.

http://cybersmartcurriculum.org/

This site is the spawn of Cybersmart’s Curriculum becoming a part of Common Sense Media.  They do not have a lot of multimedia resources, but lots of hands on group projects and learning experiences, worksheets, handouts, and guides.  A great start if you want students to be thinking about Internet Safety outside of the classroom (with reading materials or worksheets) or have them working within the classroom in small groups.

This site is the NetSmartz Teen website for Internet Safety.  The site has a lot of video connections to the worksheets and handouts.  If you have a lot of visual learners or need a good attention grabber, start here.
There is no right or wrong way to discuss Internet Safety in your classroom as long as it IS a discussion you have.  Hopefully, these websites can help start the conversation within your classroom community.
